Clearly the easiest way to get dried apricots is to buy them yourself.  For those of you that prefer to make your own, it is relatively straightforward.  Below are two different methods.  One for using a dehydrator, and one for using your oven should you not have one of these.

How to dry apricots using a dehydrator at home

  1. Clean apricots thoroughly before starting.
  2. Slice apricots down the middle
  3. Remove the pit.  This can be thrown away.
  4. Leaving the skin on, turn both halves of the apricots inside out.
  5. Spread the apricots evenly onto your drying racks.  The apricots should be placed with the skin touching the drying racks.
  6. Your dehydrator should be set to 130-135 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Set the timer on your dehydrator for 12 hours.
  8. Remove apricots.
  9. If you do not wish to use them immediately, store in a sealed glass jar and leave in a cool, dark room or cupboard.
  10. Once stored, these will last a number of months.

How to dry apricots in an oven at home

  1. Clean apricots thoroughly before starting.
  2. Slice apricots down the middle

  6. Spread the apricots evenly onto the baking paper.  The apricots should be placed with the skin touching the paper.

  8. Allow the apricots to dry for 12 hours, turning after 6.
  9. If you do not wish to use them immediately, store in a sealed glass jar and leave in a cool, dark room or cupboard.
  10. Once stored, these will last a number of months.
